Our transition year students involved in the “Design a sustainable village for 2025” competition took part in a sustainable living workshop in the LCFE Raheen campus. This was facilitated by the Xplore Hub on the campus and encompassed many areas of sustainable living including renewable energy production, smart living, Wind turbine design and testing, solar design and testing and a full guided tour of the campus facilities.
The students had a great time engaging with the different topics especially the practical elements with their competitive sides really showing when comparing individual designs of their wind turbines and resulting electrical outputs. A huge thank you to LCFE Raheen campus, Martin Cournane and Margot Walsh for facilitating this workshop and we look forward to a second workshop in April focusing on smart manufacturing, structural concepts and automation.
