Transition Year (TY) Itinerary of Events
September
· TY Golf: Beginning of golf lessons (September and October) in Coonagh.
· Bowling: Social and team-building activity.
· Bonding Day: Konor Halpin Circus Workshop to build group dynamics and trust.
· Barista Course: Training for 30 students to learn coffee-making skills.
· Culinary Course: 12 students start culinary skills training.
· Empathy Building:
o TY Coffee Morning: In aid of Milford Hospice.
o Mentoring First-Year Students: Peer support and guidance program.
o Fundraising: For Breast Cancer Awareness.
o Community Work: Two days of work placement with St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP).
o Shoe Boxes for the Homeless: Collecting and Packaging Items
October
· TY Trip to Creative Aerial Centre: An exciting and creative day out.
· Walk of Three Bridges: Preparing for Gaisce Walk and explore the three bridges at the same time
· TY Market: Student-run market event held at school.
· Golf: Continued lessons at Coonagh.
· Work Experience in UL: For interested students, to explore future career options.
November
· First Aid Training: Life-saving skills course for all TY students.
· Trip to Dublin: Educational visit to the Office of the Ombudsman , A guided tour of the GPO and some free time
· TY Dream Ambassadors: Digital Training and supporting younger students
· Work Experience in Analog: Opportunity for interested girls to work with Analog Devices.
· Trip to Social Farm: Hands-on experience with farming and agriculture.
December
· Trip to Galway: Cultural visit to explore Galway and a visit to the Galway Markets.
· Decider Skills Workshop: Developing decision-making and critical thinking skills.
· Forensic Fun Workshop: Engaging forensic science-based activities.
· Visit to TUS Open Day: A tour to explore potential future university options.
· School Enterprise Market: Students sell products/services at a school-wide market event.
· Milk Market: Students setting up stands and selling products at the Milk Market
· TY CAT 4 Testing: Standardized tests for academic development tracking.
January
· TY Work Experience: Students embark on work placements to gain practical experience.
· Road Safety Talks: Awareness sessions on safe driving and road safety.
· Driving Lessons: Each student receives a driving lesson as part of road safety preparation.
February
· Work Experience at Limerick Youth Theatre: 4-week program for interested students.
· Creative Writing Workshop: Enhancing literary and writing skills.
· Tourism Workshop at TUS: Learning about the tourism industry and related opportunities.
· Visit to Social Enterprise Unit: Tour of a local social enterprise for hands-on experience.
· Skin Care and Beauty Workshop: Beauty and skincare tips and techniques.
· Talk from SVP: Insight into the work of St. Vincent de Paul.
· Talk from Limerick City and County Enterprise Board: Tips on selling your own products – branding and advertising
March
· Trip to Cork: Educational and cultural trip to Cork City.
· FET - Hairdressing Workshop: Practical training in the hairdressing industry.
· Footgolf: A fun and engaging activity combining football and golf.
· TY Garda Work Experience: Four students gain work experience with the Garda.
· Work Experience in UL: Four students interested in teaching participate.
· Regeneron Work Experience: 11 TY students work for two days at Regeneron.
· Visit to Belltable: Attend a show for cultural exposure and to support our TY classmates.
· Career talk on Psychology Talk from a Psychologist on training and work involved in the job
April
· Overnight Outdoor Adventure Trip to Kilfinane: Team-building outdoor adventure experience and complete final challenge for Gaisce.
· SVP Youth Day at Radisson: 12 students attend the event organized by St. Vincent de Paul.
· TY Media Day at LCFE: Looking at careers in the media
· TY Wellbeing Days: A series of talks and workshops focused on mental and physical health.
· Bicycle Maintenance Workshop: Learn how to maintain and repair bicycles.
· Career talk from an Entrepreneur: Learn about the support available for Entrepreneurs and the challenges that entrepreneurs face
May
· Graduation Ceremony: Celebrating the completion of TY and the achievements of students.
· End-of-Year Trip (12th May): A fun and rewarding trip marking the end of the academic year.
· History Walking Tour of Limerick City: A guided walking tour focusing on the rich history of the city.
· Cinema visit and Afternoon tea : Wishing each other well for the Summer
