The DEIS Planning Team is responsible for compiling the school improvement plan (or DEIS Plan). This team is responsible for setting specific targets for the school to meet within a three-year period in the areas of Attendance, Retention, Literacy, Numeracy, Exam Attainment, Progression and Partnerships (with parents and with others). The actions and initiatives carried out in order to meet these targets are under constant review, in an ongoing process of school self-evaluation, with consultation with all school partners such as students, parents, teachers and external agencies.
The DEIS team is comprised of various members of staff from a range of working teams within the school, alongside members of the senior management team and is co-ordinated by a DEIS co-ordinator. The DEIS team meets every week to discuss various initiatives to promote the teaching and learning experiences of all and to evaluate the success of each of these initiatives. In addition, there are several initiatives currently in place to promote, educate and motivate students to avail of third level education and also an increased uptake of apprenticeships and traineeships. Other areas of focus for the DEIS team include improvements in school attendance and retention figures as well as strengthening our partnerships with parents and local agencies, businesses and third level institutions.
As part of the school improvement plan, or DEIS Plan, already mentioned, we are constantly monitoring and tracking the progression of students following completion of their Leaving Certificate examinations. The progression of school leavers is among one of the targets of our existing DEIS Plan, 2024-27. This involves an annual audit of where each school leaver has progressed to in a Destinations Survey. Results to date show the uptake of further and higher educational courses, individuals starting apprenticeships and traineeships as well as those entering the labour market/employment upon finishing second level education.
With regard to the evaluation process we also undertake an annual review of our school initiatives to promote, educate and motivate students to progress onto more beneficial courses of education, training and upskilling. This involves both quantitative analysis as well as qualitative responses from students, parents, teachers, employers and course providers
