School Show

Every year, Thomond Community College comes alive with extraordinary energy, passion, and creativity as we prepare for our much-anticipated school musical. This long-standing tradition is more than just a performance—it’s a celebration of talent, teamwork, and the spirit of our school community.

Since 2016, our school has proudly staged spectacular productions, showcasing the immense talent of our students. While 2020 and 2021 saw a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our tradition has remained strong, bringing unforgettable performances to the stage:

  • 2016 – The Addams Family: A spooky, hilarious, and heartwarming tale of love and family values in the quirkiest household.
  • 2017 – Sister Act: A feel-good musical filled with soulful singing and comedic chaos in a convent.
  • 2018 – Beauty and the Beast: A timeless fairy tale about love, acceptance, and seeing beyond appearances.
  • 2019 – Little Shop of Horrors: A thrilling, darkly comedic tale of a man-eating plant and an ambitious florist.
  • 2022 – Alice in Wonderland: A whimsical journey down the rabbit hole into a world of imagination and wonder.
  • 2023 – Take a Chance on Me: A joyous, high-energy musical inspired by Mamma Mia, celebrating friendship, love, and ABBA’s greatest hits.
  • 2024 – Greased Lightnin’: A nostalgic throwback to the rock ‘n’ roll era, bursting with energy, dance, and youthful romance.

For our students, the school musical is an incredible opportunity to step into the spotlight, whether on stage or behind the scenes. Actors, singers, and dancers from First to Sixth year build confidence and hone their performance skills, while those involved in set design, costumes, hair and make up, lighting, and sound gain hands-on experience in the technical and creative aspects of theatre production. Transition Year students have played a major role in recent years promoting and developing our school musical through their Drama, Media Development and Event Management modules. Our musicians, often made up of past and present students, dedicate countless hours to provide the heart and soul of the performance with their dedication and talent.

Beyond developing artistic abilities, participation in the musical fosters discipline, collaboration, and resilience. Students learn the value of hard work, the importance of supporting one another, and the joy of bringing a shared vision to life. The friendships formed and the memories made during rehearsals and performances last a lifetime.

The impact of the school musical extends far beyond those directly involved. Our entire school community comes together—teachers, staff, parents and family members, and fellow students—to support and celebrate the production. Each performance is a moment of pride, showcasing the immense talent and dedication of our students while strengthening the bonds within our school.

Whether you’re performing, designing, directing, or simply enjoying from the audience, Thomond Community College school musical is an experience like no other. It is a tradition that embodies the creativity, teamwork, and school spirit that make our community so special. We are thinking about next year’s performance already, so raise the curtain and light the lights!
