Stand Up Week at Thomond Community College
At Thomond Community College, we are proud to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and respect for all members of our school community. Stand Up Week, held annually, is a special event dedicated to raising awareness and standing against bullying, particularly homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic bullying.
This year’s Stand Up Week was a vibrant and meaningful celebration of unity. Through a series of engaging activities, workshops, and discussions, students and staff came together to promote understanding, empathy, and acceptance.
Highlights of the week included:
- PRIDE: The school was awash with vibrant colours as students and staff wore rainbow-themed accessories and had face and hand painting to show their support for LGBTQ+ inclusivity. The PRIDE flag also flew proudly at the school’s entrance
- Guest Speakers: Inspiring talks from local advocates and members of the LGBTQ+ community provided powerful insights into the importance of respect.
- Lesson time: Students created posters, artwork, watched videos and participate in lessons which all explored the importance of standing up against bullying and fostering a culture of kindness and inclusion.
Stand Up Week is more than just an event — it’s a reflection of the values that Thomond Community College holds dear. It reminds us all of the importance of treating others with dignity and celebrating what makes each of us unique. Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive school community.
